Driver facing multiple crimes after Saturday night wreck in Tumwater, police say

A 33-year-old woman is suspected of driving under the influence and vehicular assault following a four-vehicle, Saturday night crash on North Street, according to Tumwater police.

The crash was reported at North Street and Hoadly Street, which is just outside Olympia city limits.

About 9:40 p.m. Saturday, the four vehicles were headed west on North Street, police announced in a news release on Sunday.

Leading the way was the driver of a Hyundai Santa Fe, according to police, followed by the 33-year-old woman who was driving a Ford Explorer.

Police say she was driving at a high rate of speed and crashed into the Santa Fe. Both vehicles then spun out of control, including the Explorer, which left the road and crashed into a tree and light pole, knocking both down, according to police.

Two other vehicles headed west on North Street also were struck, according to police. One of those drivers didn’t stop and continued driving west, although that driver has since been contacted by police, according to the news release.

The 33-year-old woman and multiple occupants of the Santa Fe, including a 10-year-old boy, were taken to an area hospital and then were taken elsewhere due to serious injuries.

The boy was ultimately was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma and the 33-year-old woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to police.

Police say the woman will be booked into the Thurston County Jail after she has been released from the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, according to police.
