Man hit and killed while lying in Thurston County road has been identified
A man who died after being struck by a vehicle on a south Thurston County road last week has been identified.
Coroner Gary Warnock identified the man as 44-year-old Corde Journee from Centralia. Warnock said the man died from multiple blunt force injuries from the accident.
According to previous reporting from The Olympian, around midnight on April 21, two men were working out of a truck on Moon Road, just north of U.S. Highway 12. Thurston County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mike Brooks said as the two drove down the road, the passenger allegedly became “unruly” and was dropped off in the middle of the road.
Warnock previously told The Olympian that the driver was training the passenger on a delivery route. The driver returned to the passenger’s vehicle to drop off his work-related items, and then resumed his route. As he drove down the same road, he could now see the man – the former passenger – lying in the road.
At the same time, a second driver in her early 60s appeared. According to previous reporting, the first driver tried to warn her about the man in the road by flashing his high beams at her. She responded by flashing her high beams back, and she hit the man lying in the road.
The crash was under investigation as of April 21. The Olympian could not immediately reach the TCSO for more information regarding the investigation.
