Woman jumps over freeway barrier during pursuit, Thurston Sheriff says

A 31-year-old woman finally was taken into custody Friday night after she jumped over a freeway barrier on southbound Interstate 5, Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said.

In a social media post, Sanders said a deputy attempted to stop the vehicle she was driving because both brake lights were not working. The driver fled, and a pursuit was initiated, he said in his post.

During the pursuit on northbound I-5, the vehicle lost a tire, came to a stop and the driver fled on foot, Sanders wrote.

“The driver hopped the center barrier on I-5 and was tackled by a deputy just before they were nearly fatally struck by a vehicle,” his post reads. “Deputies then fought to restrain the suspect in the fast lane of I-5 before taking her into custody.”

A passenger in the vehicle allegedly begged the driver to stop fleeing and pull over, but she refused, according to Sanders.

The woman was taken into custody in the Trosper Road area of I-5 in Tumwater, according to the Thurston County jail log.

She was booked on suspicion of multiple crimes, including driving under the influence, attempting to elude a police vehicle, driving with a suspended license and unlawful imprisonment (for the passenger in the car), jail information shows.
