Semi-truck crashes off I-5 into trees, blocking lane for five hours Friday

The Washington State Patrol responded to a wreck early Friday morning involving a car-hauling semi-truck on I-5 that left the roadway and crashed into trees.

Trooper Kameron Watts told The Olympian that the WSP was dispatched at around 2:30 a.m. to a one vehicle crash on I-5 north near exit 99, south of Tumwater. He said the semi-truck had four vehicles on it, and the cab had partially separated from its frame. The semi-truck left the roadway and fell on its side after striking trees.

Watts said the right lane of I-5 north was blocked for just under five hours while the driver of the semi-truck was extracted from the vehicle. He said the Washington State Department of Transportation provided traffic control as crews cleared the scene. The right lane was reopened around 8:30 a.m.

He said the cause of the crash is under investigation, and it’s not clear if another driver was involved.
