Thurston Co. firefighters warn of early fire season after brush fires Thursday
Several agencies responded to brush fires in Thurston County on Thursday evening south of Tumwater. South Thurston Fire and EMS posted a news release on social media on Friday morning detailing their response to one of the blazes.
According to the release, South Thurston Fire and EMS responded at 5:29 p.m. to a reported brush fire in the area of Angus Road Southeast and Old Highway 99 Southeast.
Crews arrived to find a brush fire about 1 acre in size, according to the release. They contained the fire, no one was injured, and there was no property loss, according to the release.
Southeast Thurston Fire Authority, East Olympia Fire District #6, Lacey Fire District 3, and McLane/Black Lake Fire District 9 assisted in the response, according to the release. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The state Department of Natural Resources is investigating the cause.
The West Thurston Regional Fire Authority also posted on social media about a fire on Thursday evening. The fire authority said it appears the fire season is starting earlier than normal this year.
Their post said crews were on scene of a 1-acre fire around 6 p.m. near Case Road south of Tumwater. Photos shared by the fire authority show the blaze in a field next to train tracks.
DNR, East Olympia Fire District #6 and South Thurston Fire and EMS assisted in containing the fire, according to the post. Crews continued working to extinguish hot spots and smoldering areas, and the public was asked to avoid the area while crews worked.
