Expect Thurston County lane closures on I-5 this weekend, WSDOT says

Weekend lane closures are coming to Interstate 5 as it approaches the Nisqually River Bridge, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Here are the key times:

  • Saturday, May 16: Crews will reduce northbound I-5 to two lanes from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Sunday, May 17: Crews will reduce southbound I-5 to two lanes during the same time.

Why?

The lane closures create a work zone for WSDOT bridge inspection crews, according to a WSDOT news release.

“Workers use a specialized under-bridge inspection truck during the work. Daylight is needed to inspect tight spaces below the bridge deck,” the release reads.

Drivers near work areas are asked to slow down, be kind, pay attention and stay calm.
