Thurston deputies respond to burglary alarm, discover man in court building

A man was discovered damaging property inside a court building Sunday morning, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

About 9:40 a.m., deputies responded to a burglary alarm at Thurston County Family & Juvenile Court in the 2800 block of 32nd Avenue Southwest.

Once there, they found broken glass and the man, “actively damaging property inside the building,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“Using effective de-escalation techniques, deputies were able to safely detain the individual without incident,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

During the investigation, deputies also discovered that a U.S. flag had been removed from the flagpole and placed inside a mailbox. The flag was reattached to the pole, according to the sheriff’s office.
