Olympia man arrested after DUI crash causes ‘life-altering injuries,’ WSP says

Two people were hospitalized with injuries after a man driving impaired left his lane of state Route 510 and hit another car around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash happened in Thurston County, near the 14000 block of Mud Run Road Southeast, a WSDOT press memo said. A 50-year-old Olympia man was travelling west on state Route 510 approaching Mud Run Road Southeast when he entered the eastbound lane and struck another vehicle traveling eastbound, per the report.

Both cars came to rest in the eastbound and westbound lanes, and the road was blocked for nearly three and a half hours, according to WSDOT.

A 61-year-old Lacey woman was in the car with the Olympia man and was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital with injuries, per the report. A 29-year-old Yelm man, who was driving the other vehicle, was also transported to the hospital with injuries, WSDOT said.

All were wearing their seatbelts and both vehicles were totaled, the press memo said. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the 50-year-old was arrested on suspicion of DUI vehicular assault, per the report.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kameron Watts told The News Tribune around 9:45 a.m. Monday that the 50-year-old was booked into the Thurston County Jail Sunday night. He could not provide details on any injuries, but said the 50-year-old was arrested on suspicion of DUI vehicular assault because at least one passenger had “life-altering injuries.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
