One airlifted after serious multi-car wreck, Thurston Co. Sheriff’s Office says

Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said on social media May 28 that the Sheriff’s Office was investigating a multi-car serious injury rollover collision on Rainier Road Southeast.

Sanders said at 8:40 p.m. that the roadway between Military Road and Spurgeon Creek Road was completely shut down while the Sheriff’s Office traffic unit worked to investigate the cause of the wreck and reconstruct the scene.

Sanders told The Olympian on May 29 that one person had significant injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He said two others, a driver and a passenger, were transported to local hospitals with injuries.

He said the roadway was shut down for about three hours. The cause is still under investigation, and he said he hasn’t heard of drugs or alcohol being involved. Sanders said both cars were driving the same direction, and that the wreck may have been from a passing maneuver.

Sanders said on social media that the road was back open at 9:54 p.m.
