Pilot injured after plane misses airport runway in Mason County, officials say

A 72-year-old pilot was injured Friday afternoon after his plane crashed just short of the runway at Sanderson Field in Shelton, according to the Washington State Patrol and Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported about 12:30 p.m. The pilot was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for his injuries, according to the State Patrol.

“Initial reports indicate the aircraft came up short of the runway during its approach,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

There were no reports of fire associated with the crash, they added.

Family members, fire personnel, law enforcement and Federal Aviation Administration officials responded to the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
