Driver suspected of DUI crashes into power pole, Thurston County Sheriff says
A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes Sunday afternoon, including driving under the influence, after he crashed into a power pole in the Yelm area of the county, Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post.
About 3:15 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 20400 block of Neat Road Southeast.
“The driver left the roadway and sheered a power pole, leaving it suspended by its lines,” Sanders said. “Upon arrival, deputies located a driver who appeared severely impaired. The driver had a suspended driver’s license and a requirement to have an ignition interlock due to a previous DUI, but did not have one equipped.”
According to Sanders, the driver allegedly provided a preliminary alcohol breath test of 0.217, which is three times the Washington state legal limit of 0.08.
The driver was first taken to an area hospital and then booked into jail.
The man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving while license suspended and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device while required, jail information shows.
