Thurston County driver crashes into Yelm police officer, WA State Patrol says

Three people were hurt Saturday evening in Yelm after a two-vehicle crash involving a local police officer, according to the Washington State Patrol.

About 6:30 p.m., a 28-year-old Yelm man and his 74-year-old passenger were turning from North Killion Road Southeast onto what is known in the area as state Route 510 alternate.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old Yelm police officer in his patrol vehicle was headed east on SR 510 Alternate.

Troopers say the 28-year-old driver failed to yield and crashed into that vehicle.

He, the passenger, the police officer and a passenger in the patrol vehicle were hurt in the crash and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

It wasn’t immediately clear who the passenger was in the patrol vehicle, Trooper Kameron Watts said Sunday.

The officer was not wearing a seat belt, according to the State Patrol memo released about the crash.

Following the crash, the road was blocked for more than two hours.
