Thurston Co. home near Offut Lake damaged by fire Thursday morning, officials say

A fire destroyed a home near Offut Lake and injured two occupants early Thursday morning.

East Olympia Fire District 6 responded the blaze at about 3:40 a.m. and extinguished it within about 30 minutes of arriving on scene, Deputy Chief of Operations Chris Patti told The Olympian Thursday.

The small home, located on the 1200 block of Collins Street Southeast, is a “total loss,” Patti said.

Two occupants self-evacuated by the time fire crews arrived, he said. Fire crews treated both of them for smoke inhalation before transporting them to an area hospital, he said. No fire crews were injured in the response, he added.

Investigators are still determining where and how the fire started in the home, Patti said. There is “quite a lot of damage” for investigators to sift through, he added.

South Thurston Fire and EMS, Southeast Thurston Fire Authority and Lacey Fire District 3 assisted East Olympia Fire District 6, Patti said.

Patti serves as the Deputy Chief of Operations for Lacey Fire District 3. The Lacey district administratively oversees the East Olympia district in accordance with an interlocal agreement that went into effect in January.
