Thurston Co. Sunday house fire spread to tree, neighboring home, officials say

Units with Lacey Fire District 3 responded to a house fire on Pattison Lake Sunday evening that spread to a tree and a neighbor’s home.

Lt. Aaron Hammond told The Olympian Monday that units were dispatched at 7:52 p.m. to reports of a structure fire in the 5400 block of Atchinson Drive Southeast.

He said several people called 911 about seeing fire and smoke.

Hammond said the homeowner reported a fire that started on the outside of the home. He said units arrived at 7:56 p.m., and the home was actively on fire.

The fire spread to a nearby 30-foot fir tree, which then ignited the neighboring house, Hammond said.

He said units struck a second alarm and fire crews from the Olympia Fire Department and South Bay Fire District 8 responded.

Hammond said the main fire was knocked down at 8:24 p.m., followed by the rest of the blazes. He said crews worked through the night to put out hotspots, and one crew was still at the home Monday morning.

He said the residents of the home were not inside during the fire, and he was not sure if the neighboring home had to be evacuated. He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
