Fire damages residence south of Yelm Highway in Thurston County, officials say

Fire damaged a home and garage Monday afternoon, according to East Olympia Fire District 6.

About 12:45 p.m., East Olympia Fire and several other fire districts were dispatched to the blaze in the 8300 block of 83rd Avenue Southeast. That location is south of Yelm Highway and near Spurgeon Creek Road.

“Upon arrival, crews found a small residence with heavy fire showing from the garage area extending into the residence,” East Olympia fire officials said in a news release.

“One occupant was inside the home at the time of the incident and was alerted to the fire by a passerby,” the release reads. “The occupant had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.”

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, according to the release.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Lacey Fire District 3, South Thurston Fire & EMS, Southeast Thurston Fire Authority, South Bay Fire District 8 and the Olympia Fire Department assisted East Olympia Fire.
