Thurston County wreck sends vehicle through area fence, WA State Patrol says

A vehicle was propelled into the fence of private property at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and Forstrom Street Southwest after a collision that occurred Sunday afternoon.

WSP Trooper Kameron Watts said a Toyota Camry traveling north on Forstrom Street approached the intersection too fast.

“That vehicle failed to negotiate its speed properly to stop in time at the intersection, proceeded through the intersection, and was T-boned by a Toyota Highlander on its drivers side,” Watts said.

According to Watts, the momentum and the impact from that collision sent the Toyota Camry into the intersection and then into a fence surrounding private property. The incident occurred at 4:44 p.m.

The Toyota Highlander came to rest in the middle of the intersection, blocking the road.

The driver of the Toyota Camry suffered some injuries, Watts said, but was transported to the hospital by their own means. That driver was cited for negligent driving in the second degree. The driver was not under the influence.

The intersection of U.S. 12 and Forstrom Street Southwest has returned to normal operations.

“Just be mindful when you’re approaching an intersection,” Watts said. “Go the appropriate speed to stop in enough time to clear the intersection before proceeding through, and you’ll avoid having a collision such as this.”
