Gun found after domestic violence incident at lakeside park, Lacey police say
Two teens were arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes earlier this month after a domestic violence incident at Long Lake Park in Lacey, according to a social media post from the police department and information provided by a Lacey police spokesman.
About 5:20 p.m. June 15, police were dispatched to the lakeside park after a report of a physical incident between a man and woman, both in their late teens.
Jail log information shows the man is 19. Police spokesperson Sgt. Derek Thompson didn’t immediately know the woman’s age, but he said she is 18 or 19.
During the incident, a child was handed off to someone nearby, according to Thompson.
“An officer arrived on scene and contacted a group of people who were pointing towards the south end of the park,” Thompson wrote in an email. “The group informed the officers that the male and female had been physical with each other, and the male may have a gun.”
Both parties were detained without issue, Thompson wrote. The child is safe and was left with grandparents, he said.
A police dog allegedly found a Glock handgun with an extended magazine nearby later that day.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of two misdemeanors: simple assault/domestic violence and malicious mischief/domestic violence.
The man was arrested on suspicion of felony harassment/threat to kill and unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree, according to Thompson’s email.
The 19-year-old pleaded not guilty to those charges at his arraignment on June 23 and has been released on a $5,000 bond. Court records for the woman were not immediately available.
