Woman gives birth on side of Thurston Co. road Wednesday morning, sheriff says

First responders assisted a woman who gave birth on the side of the road in rural Thurston County early Wednesday morning.

The birth occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of Fir Tree Road Southeast, which is near the intersection with Rainier Road, according to Thurston County dispatch.

East Olympia Fire District 6 and Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene. A 911 caller told dispatch that his wife was giving birth in a vehicle on the side of the road, Sheriff Derek Sanders shared on Facebook. Sanders was on the way home but diverted to the call. He arrived on the scene six minutes later and found “our newest friend — a little boy holding on tight to mom’s finger,” he said.

“Congrats to the parents, that’s a good call to end on!” Sanders wrote.

The Olympian has asked East Olympia Fire District 6 for additional information.
