Stolen SUV found in Olympia during golf cart theft, police say
An SUV stolen in Kent on June 23 was recovered near northeast Olympia a week later, police say.
The same night the SUV was found, the utility vehicle (maintenance golf cart) of an East Bay Drive condominium complex was stolen.
Lt. Paul Lower said the condominium’s security officer saw the large SUV speeding away from the complex, followed by the utility vehicle, at 1:50 a.m. on June 30.
The security personnel discovered the lock on the fencing of the condominium’s maintenance center was broken, with its vehicle missing. According to Lower, the security officer called Olympia police to report the stolen cart and speeding SUV.
Olympia police saw the SUV driving at Bethel Street and 26th Avenue. Lower said an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the SUV drove north and evaded police. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office found the SUV abandoned at 26th Avenue and South Bay Road around 2 a.m.
Lower said the SUV was stolen in Kent on June 23, which Kent police confirmed.
The utility vehicle has not been located, Lower said, and no arrests have been made.
