Multiple vehicle break-ins reported at Olympia park Sunday, police say

As many as four vehicles were broken into over the weekend at Watershed Park, according to Olympia police.

The break-ins were reported about 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the park, which is at 2500 Henderson Blvd. SE, Lt. Paul Lower said Tuesday.

The vehicle owners reported broken windows and indications that the suspects had rummaged through them, although it wasn’t immediately clear what was stolen, he said.

This isn’t the first time this has happened at the park, Lower said, and he acknowledged that the park does present some challenges for users.

For one, the parking area along Henderson Boulevard is in a dark area shaded by trees. And then once people enter the thickly forested park, the trails head down into a ravine, so there are no clear sight lines between the park and parking lot, Lower said.

Even though park users are locking their vehicle doors, criminals can still take advantage of the “environmental conditions,” and try to break into them, he said.

Police try to regularly patrol the area, but he also urged park users to report suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about the Sunday afternoon break-ins is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
