Crews respond to fire at Jungle encampment in Olympia Tuesday afternoon

Olympia firefighters extinguished a small structure fire at the Jungle encampment Tuesday afternoon.

The Olympia Fire Department responded to the encampment, located on the 3200 block of Martin Way East, just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to Thurston County dispatch. Initial 911 callers reported smoke and flames inside the encampment, according to dispatch.

Firefighters reportedly found a 20-foot by 20-foot structure fire and quickly put it out, per dispatch. Olympia police also responded to assist firefighters, OPD Lt. Paul Lower confirmed to The Olympian. However, he didn’t have specifics.

The Olympian has asked the Olympia Fire Department for additional information.
