Crews fight 3-acre fire in Thurston County that threatened nearby homes
Several agencies responded to a three acre brush fire near Tenino on Tuesday afternoon.
No injuries or property damage occurred, South Thurston Fire and EMS Chief Kris Gray told The Olympian Tuesday, but it was a close call for three nearby houses on Mima Acres Road.
“The fire is out and contained,” Gray shared in a Tuesday evening Facebook post. “Firefighters have established a containment line completely around the incident. I am grateful to report there were no structures lost and no injuries to civilians or emergency responders.”
The Washington state Department of Natural Resources provided helicopter support to extinguish the flames, Gray said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, he added.
“The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has assumed command of the incident and will continue working through the night and into tomorrow, extinguishing remaining hot spots and securing the fire area,” Gray said in the Tuesday evening post.
Several other agencies assisted, including West Thurston Fire Regional Fire Authority, East Olympia Fire District 6, Southeast Thurston Fire Authority, Lacey Fire District 3 and the McLane Black Lake Fire Department.
“Thank you to everyone for your patience, support and cooperation throughout today’s incident,” Gray said in the post. “We are grateful for the strong partnerships that help keep our communities safe.”
Gray said more information would be released in a Wednesday news release.
