South Sound YMCA leader will retire

South Sound YMCA President & CEO Kyle Cronk will retire at the end of 2026 after 38 years with the YMCA, the organization announced.

Before the South Sound YMCA, he served as president and chief executive of the Olympic Peninsula. He arrived in Olympia in 2015 and worked closely with community leaders in Mason County to raise $13 million in just 13 months leading to the construction of the Shelton Family YMCA, according to a news release.

The retirement announcement follows another big announcement: an effort to bring the YMCA to northeast Lacey.

That proposal aims to develop an 80,000-square-foot facility that would feature four indoor basketball courts, a swimming pool and other amenities similar to the Briggs YMCA on Yelm Highway.

The Board of Trustees will launch a nationwide search for the Y’s next president and chief executive, a search that will be undertaken by YMCA of the USA, according to the release. “The search committee, led by (Board of Trustees chairman) Anthony Brock, expects to name a successor by January 2027.”
