Large power outage affects northeast Thurston County neighborhoods Friday

A large power outage affected more than 1,300 northeast Thurston County residents on Friday.

The outage started just before 2 p.m. and impacted about 1,350 customers, according to the Puget Sound Energy outage map.

The affected area spans from the tip of Johnson Point, Nisqually Reach coast and neighborhoods south of Tolmie State Park, per the map. The website lists the cause of the outage as trees and vegetation. PSE estimates work crews will restore power by 6 p.m. Friday.

When reached for comment, PSE spokesperson Andrew Padula said a big tree leaned onto a transmission line in the 4600 block of Marvin Road NE.

“Crews had to go out and remove the tree,” Padula said.

Stormy weather did not affect the area Friday, though thunderstorms moved through the region Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle. Calmer conditions prevailed Friday.
