Mason County coroner identifies Grapeview shooting victim
A 57-year-old Grapeview man who was shot and killed by a Mason County sheriff’s deputy on Friday has been identified as Timmy L. Walling, according to a Mason County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The news release cites the coroner’s findings.
Walling was shot just before noon Friday after deputies responded to a report of a man with a gun in the area of the 100 block of East Huckleberry Drive.
The first deputy on the scene shot Walling after the deputy was allegedly confronted by the man with his gun, according to the news release. The deputy was not injured.
The shooting will be investigated by the Region 3 investigation team, which includes detectives from sheriff’s offices in Thurston, Grays Harbor and Lewis counties.
The deputy is on paid administrative leave.
