Amazon surprised students in a language arts class at Pioneer Middle School in DuPont on Monday with a delivery of 30 Kindle Fire HD devices and gift cards for loading content.

Pioneer, part of the Steilacoom School District, was chosen to receive the donation because of its proximity to an Amazon fulfillment center. The total donation was worth more than $5,000.

“Our building is just down the street,” said Greg Zielinski, manager of the DuPont Amazon facility. “We are really proud to be a part of the community and to give back to the city and Pioneer Middle School.”

He said the goal of the donation is to promote reading and technologically advanced learning opportunities for students.
