Hoquiam family escapes fire with dog’s help

Fire officials in Hoquiam reported that a family was able to escape a burning home early Wednesday because a dog barked and alerted them to the fire.

The dog woke the family before smoke filled their east Hoquiam home, Hoquiam Fire Capt. Tim Smith told KBKW-AM. The home’s fire alarm went off only after firefighters had arrived at the scene about 3 a.m., Smith said.

No injuries were reported. The fire started in the home’s ceiling.
