Thursday (Nov. 5)

International Connection: Altrusa International of Olympia is sponsoring an International Connection evening at 7 p.m. at Tumwater High School, 700 Israel Road SW, to provide foreign exchange students and their host families an opportunity to meet and exchange contact information and ideas. Women of Achievement celebration: This year’s event begins at 5 p.m. at The Washington Center for the Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SW, in Olympia. Social hour 5-6 p.m. The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature racial and gender justice activist Naomi Tutu. Honorees are Khurshida Begum, Barbara Clarkson, Kristin Jacobsen and Marsha Tadano Long as Women of Achievement; Kimberly Perry as the Young Woman of Achievement; and Together as the Business of Achievement. Tickets are $25 for the main event, $20 for students and seniors, $10 for youth and $100 for the main event and soiree. Tickets can be purchased online at olytix.org or by calling 360-753-8586.

Ad Hoc Committee on Police and Community Relations Forum: The Ad Hoc Committee on Police and Community Relations will hold its second community forum at 5:30 p.m. at the offices of the CIELO Project at Family Support Services, 1202 Black Lake Blvd. SW, Suite B1. The forum will focus primarily on the experiences and ideas of the Latino community. The Olympia City Council tasked a group of citizen advisers with engaging the community on how the Olympia Police can better serve the public. Toy ’n’ Joy Shop: Those wishing to apply for participation in the Salvation Army’s Toy ’n’ Joy Shop should come in person between 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3:30 p.m. , at the Salvation Army Church, 1505 Fourth Ave. E., in Olympia. Bring picture ID, Social Security cards for all household members, proof of low-income status and proof of residency, which must be in Olympia, Lacey or Tumwater. Dinner and auction: Lacey South Sound Chamber of Commerce presents a homecoming-themed dinner and auction at 6 p.m. at Indian Summer Golf & Country Club, 5900 Troon Lane SE, Olympia. Fit to Fight Bazaar: The bazaar benefits Relay for Life/American Cancer Society and runs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 8529 58th Ave. SE.

City Gates Ministries auction: Events for the evening include dinner, auctions and a Great Wolf Lodge Raffle. 4:30-9:30 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, 333 Kaiser Road NW, Olympia. Tickets are $35 available at www.citygatesministries.org.

The League of Women Voters benefit: Thurston County LWV will hold its annual Education Fund Benefit Luncheon 11:30-1:30 at the Red Lion Hotel, 2300 Evergreen Park Dr. SW, Olympia. The luncheon will be preceded by a silent Auction and raffle to benefit the general fund. Luncheon tickets are $55 per person, with $35 of each ticket being a tax deductible contribution. “Honor & Sacrifice: The Roy Matsumoto Story”: Film screening in honor of Veterans Day shares the Japanese American experience of World War II.
