City Gates Ministries auction: Events for the evening include dinner, auctions and a Great Wolf Lodge raffle. 4:30-9:30 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, 333 Kaiser Road NW, Olympia. Tickets are $35 available at citygatesministries.org.

League of Women Voters benefit: Thurston County League of Women Voters will have its annual Education Fund Benefit Luncheon 11:30-1:30 at the Red Lion Hotel, 2300 Evergreen Park Drive SW, Olympia. The luncheon will be preceded by a silent auction and raffle to benefit the general fund. Luncheon tickets are $55 per person, with $35 of each ticket constituting a tax-deductible contribution. Lincoln book and toy sale: Lots to chose from for adults and kids, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, at Lincoln Elementary School, 213 21st Ave. SE, in Olympia. The event benefits Lincoln Elementary library.

Tuesday

Film in the Capitol: In honor of Veterans Day, watch the movie “Honor & Sacrifice,” which tells the story of a Japanese immigrant family’s experiences in World War II. The film will be shown at noon in the State Reception Room of the Legislative Building. Information or RSVP: info@sos.wa.gov or 360-902-4171. Seating is limited. Light refreshments will be served and copies of the film will be available to buy.

Schmidt House tour: The next free guided tour of Tumwater’s historic Schmidt House with longtime employee Bob Crim will be at 11 a.m. (doors open at 10:45), at Schmidt House, 330 Schmidt Place, Tumwater. Call 360-786-8117 or email: history@olytumfoundation.org to reserve a spot.

Nov. 11/Veterans day

Reading of the names: The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the Vietnam War Memorial on the Capitol Campus and continues until all names are read. The Sacajawea Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in partnership with United States Department of Defense 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration Committee, is hosting the reading aloud of each of the names of the KIA/MIA appearing on the panels at the Vietnam War Memorial.

Buffalo Soldiers in America: The Washington State Historical Society, in partnership with the Buffalo Soldiers Museum, hosts a presentation about the history of the Buffalo Soldiers in America, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. The program is the keynote presentation at the Veterans Day ceremony that runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Washington State History Museum,1911 Pacific Ave., Tacoma. This Veterans Day observance and admission to the Washington State History Museum on Veterans Day is free for all military veterans, including ex-military, retired military and those in active service. Admission is $11 for adults, $8 for student and seniors, and children ages 5 and younger get in free. The program also is free to members of the Washington State Historical Society.

War Memorial Walk: Steve Pogge, with Olympia Parks, Arts & Recreation, leads a tour from 9:30 a.m.-noon of the seven major war memorials on the Capital Campus. Learn how each one came into being and some little-known facts about the artists and interpretation behind the pieces. Tour fee is $15. Register by calling 360-753-8380. Location details provided upon registration. Good walking shoes are suggested because the tour covers about a mile.
