Rain, wind forecast for South Sound rest of the week
A wind advisory and flood watch have been issued for South Sound, beginning Thursday and continuing into the weekend.
The wind advisory begins at 4 p.m. Thursday and continues until 4 p.m. Friday. Winds are expected to be 20-30 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Winds at this level can cause trees and branches to fall, leading to power outages, according to the advisory.
The flood watch begins at 10 a.m. Thursday and continues through 10 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rain is expected, although exactly where the heaviest amounts will fall is uncertain. The watch statement says any Olympic Peninsula river could flood, as could the Chehalis and its tributaries. Flooding is expected to be more widespread Friday and Friday night.
Meanwhile, the forecast for Olympia for Thursday is for a quarter to half an inch of rain, and another half to three-quarters of an inch Thursday night.
Friday’s rainfall is forecast to be a half to three-quarters inch, but the drencher is Friday night, with the possibility of 2 inches of rain.
Temperatures will be relatively mild, with lows near 50 Thursday and Friday, and a daytime high Friday at 59. Temperatures fall slightly for the weekend.
