The Olympia City Council will begin accepting applications next week for Council Position 4, which is currently held by Cheryl Selby.

Selby was elected mayor in the Nov. 3 general election so will vacate her council seat. After election results are certified Nov. 24, the city will post an application online. The deadline to apply will be Dec. 14.

The council will interview applicants Jan. 4 and appoint a new council member in time for the Jan. 5 business meeting, said Kellie Purce Braseth, the city’s communications director.

If necessary, more interviews can be held Jan. 6, with the new council member chosen in time to participate in the council’s goal-setting retreat later that week.

Selby was elected to the council in 2013. The new council member would serve the remaining two years of Selby’s term.
