Mudslide closes one lane of McDuff Road in Thurston County
A mudslide caused damage to a section of McDuff Road in southeast Thurston County, and it has been closed to one lane between 143rd Avenue Southeast and Nature Lane Southeast, according to Thurston County Public Works officials.
Road crews installed an automated signal in the area that allows for alternating one-way traffic, according to a news release.
“The recent heavy rains appeared to have saturated a portion of the hillside, weakening the slope and damaging a portion of the road,” Thurston County Public Works director Ramiro Chavez said in the news release. “We ask for patience of folks who live in the area while the one-lane restriction is in place.”
There is no estimate of when the road will fully reopen.
