Help shape the future of downtown Olympia

Former downtown liaison Brian Wilson sits in September in the covered parklet area on Fifth Avenue in Olympia. The seating is part of one of the civic projects completed during his tenure. Now, the city seeks the public’s input on whether these types of projects are beneficial for downtown.

The South Sound public — including those who neither live nor work in Olympia — is invited to provide input online to help shape downtown Olympia's future.

The survey is part of the process to form the city’s Downtown Strategy, a document that will outline what steps the city will take over the next five to six years to shape its downtown core.

The survey can be taken online at surveymonkey.com/r/DTS1 through Jan. 17. Input will help form various land use and urban design alternatives that will be presented to the public for feedback in February.

This marks the beginning of Stage 2 in a five-stage process. Public input will be woven together with technical analysis by city staff and consultants to create a framework for action on downtown housing, retail, public spaces and parking.

Citizens from around the Thurston County region are encouraged to participate in the survey, including those who participated in a related workshop in November.
