Tribe to name building for Billy Frank Jr.
The Nisqually Tribe will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday for the naming of the Billy Frank Jr. Community Service Building.
The public event will be at the tribe’s old gym behind the current administrative building at 4820 She-Nah-Num Drive SE.
Frank, a Nisqually tribal member, founded the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission and served as its chairman for 30 years until his death in May 2014. The late tribal-rights activist was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. Congress also has voted to rename the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge in his honor.
For more information on the ceremony, call the tribe at 360-456-5221.
