Oshogatsu in Olympia: Japanese New Year celebration, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. SE, Olympia. Live entertainment. Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Banquet: The Olympia chapter hosts the event at 4 p.m. at Little Creek Casino in Shelton to benefit the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and hunting opportunities. Tickets available at rmef.org or by contacting Andi May at 360-780-3042.
South Sound Wedding Show: The ninth annual event is 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Marcus Pavilion at Saint Martin’s University, 5300 Abbey Way, SE, Lacey. Winter twig identification: Discover winter’s hidden gems with twig classes offered by Native Plant Salvage Foundation. The 2 1/2- hour field class will be at a west Olympia-area nature trail. Choose from one of two sessions: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $5, and participants will receive a handout and have the opportunity to purchase the “Winter in the Woods” book. Alto a Las Deportaciones!: Immigrant and Refugee Solidarity: A discussion about the importance of supporting the worldwide struggles of immigrants and refugees will be from 7-9 p.m., at Obsidian, 414 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia.
The House of Welcome: Help celebrate 20 years of The Evergreen State College’s Longhouse Education and Cultural Center at noon at the state Capital Museum Coach House, 211 21st Ave. SW, Olympia. The public program is part of the noon lecture series. Suggested donation to each presentation is $2. Attendees are welcome to bring lunch. Coffee, tea and cookies will be served. Lunafest film festival: Soroptimist International of Olympia’s film festival is at 6:30 p.m. 2016 at South Puget Sound Community College, Building 26, Room 105 Lecture Hall, 2011 Mottman Road SW, Olympia.
