Fire damages building near downtown Olympia

A small fire thought to have been started by a person taking shelter caused about $25,000 in damage, according to the Olympia Fire Department.

About 3 a.m. Sunday, fire crews were dispatched to 1000 Union Ave SE where they discovered a small fire in a covered entry way. The fire was extinguished, but not before smoke entered the office building and damaged it.

The person thought to have been responsible for the fire was transported to a local hospital with a medical issue unrelated to the fire, according to the fire department.
