Evergreen police officer injured in campus assault

A police officer with The Evergreen State College was injured Sunday during an altercation with a man on campus, a spokeswoman for the college said.

About 2 p.m. Sunday, Evergreen police were alerted to a man behaving suspiciously outside the library. An officer went to investigate and was assaulted by the man, college spokeswoman Meryl Lipman said.

The man was described in his 30s, she said, who was not a student.

The officer used his stun gun on the man, but the man got away, she said. As he fled the campus, he knocked over a student, she said. Thurston County sheriff’s deputies arrested him on Evergreen Parkway.

The officer was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital.
