South Sound People: Native Plant Salvage
Winter Native Plant Salvages seek volunteers
WSU’s Native Plant Salvage Project needs volunteers help recover small plants that are used for revegetation projects to benefit water quality and habitat. The work is done during winter months when plants are dormant and more likely to transplant successfully. Spend a morning salvaging small native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants from forthcoming developement sites slated for clearing.
Plant salvage activity occurs between 9:30 a.m. and noon, at which time a hot lunch is served to volunteers. After lunch, volunteers transfer plants to the native plant nursery in west Olympia and put plants in pots until about 3:30 p.m. The next event is March 13. No experience is necessary, and volunteers are trained on site. S
