Olympia spared urban flooding
A lower-than-expected high tide held off the worst of the predicted urban flooding in Olympia Thursday morning.
“The tide came in about half a foot lower than predicted,” said Andy Haub with Olympia Public Works Department. “That makes quite a difference for us.”
There was some water in the streets near the waterfront, but no property damage, Haub said.
The city had warned of potential flooding because of heavy rain coinciding with the high tide.
“We get these events two or three times a winter,” Haub said. “We’re probably through with them for this year.”
