Thurston County Public Works closed the eastbound lane of Hawks Prairie Road Northeast between Carpenter Road and Eagle Drive on Friday morning because of water over the roadway.

“Public Works officials will continue to monitor the situation and will re-open the lane when it is determined that it is safe to do so,” a county news release stated.

As of Friday morning, there was 6 to 8 inches of water along the south side of the road at the fog line, which caused eastbound traffic to drive into the westbound lanes, officials said. Crews set up signs to warn drivers of the road restriction.

“Over the weekend, Public Works will evaluate the situation to determine if a road closure is necessary to protect the traveling public,” the news release stated. “In that event, a detour route will be implemented.”

Information on the county’s road restrictions and closures is at co.thurston.wa.us/publicworks/2015/RoadStatusMap.aspx.
