Transformer failure knocks out power on Olympia’s State Avenue

A transformer failed in the 2100 block of State Avenue Northeast, temporarily knocking out power in the surrounding area for about an hour Monday, a lieutenant with the Olympia Fire Department said.

Fire crews were dispatched just after 11 a.m. Monday, but the failed transformer did not result in a fire, said Lt. Dave Haag, so fire crews marked the area with hazard tape and notified Puget Sound Energy.

Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman Akiko Oda said power was restored to 1,305 utility customers at 11:49 a.m. An additional 45 customers are expected to get their power back about 4:30 p.m.

A Thurston County 911 dispatcher said that power also was knocked out along Fourth Avenue East in downtown Olympia.
