Olympia hosts public hearing on raising vehicle license tab fees

A public hearing about a proposed increase in vehicle license tab fees for Olympia drivers will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 601 Fourth Ave. E.

The Olympia Transportation Benefit District (TBD) wants to raise the fees to $40, which is the highest amount possible without voter approval. At this time, the city imposes a $20 renewal fee for vehicles registered in Olympia.

Following the hearing Tuesday, the TBD board is expected to approve the higher fee, which would take effect in January, said finance director Jane Kirkemo.

City officials say the higher fees will raise an additional $750,000 a year to put toward road repairs and maintenance.
