Role of black residents in Washington history: Dr. Quintard Taylor will tell how Washington’s black residents have shaped the lives of all Washingtonians, 7:30-8:45 p.m. at the Olympia Timberland Library, 313 Eighth Ave. SE. Olympia Tumwater Foundation Noon History Talk: Free monthly talk by author Sandra Crowell, previewing new Thurston County history book in progress, noon at Schmidt House, 330 Schmidt Place SW, Tumwater. Doors open 11:30 a.m. Information: olytumfoundation.org, 360-786-8117.

Author Jim Lynch to discuss his new book: “Before the Wind” is a tale of a sailing-obsessed family. Lynch will speak 7:30-8:45 p.m. at the Olympia Timberland Regional Library, 313 Eighth Ave. SE. Free. Information: 360-352-0595.

Senior brain health: Linda Terry is a brain health trainer and a certified geriatric specialist. She will speak at the Tumwater Timberland Library, 7023 New Market St., 1-2 p.m. All Timberland Regional Library programs are free. Information: 360-943-7790.

Elma Elementary Kindergarten Registration: 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m. at the superintendent’s office, located at the elementary school. Children 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 are eligible to register for the 2016-17 school year. Proof of child’s immunizations and a birth certificate are required at registration. Olympia World Affairs Council: Dr. Donald Share, professor of politics and government at University of Puget Sound, will speak about “The Changing US-Cuba relationship: Still best of enemies?” 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m., at Lacey-Thurston Economic Development Council, SPSCC east campus, 4220 Sixth Ave. SE. 19th annual Resident Council Spring Bazaar: Residents at Providence Mother Joseph Care Center will kick off their annual spring bazaar 10 a.m. at 3333 Ensign Road NE, Olympia. Bazaar runs until 4 p.m. Tables are available for vendors to rent. All proceeds benefit the Resident Council Fund. Information: Penny Hyers, 360-493-4634.

Friday and Saturday

Spring Arts Walk: The semi-annual arts celebration is 5-10 p.m. Friday and noon-8 p.m. Saturday, throughout downtown Olympia.

Procession of the Species: A luminary procession happens 9:30 p.m. Friday in downtown Olympia as part of Arts Walk. The full Procession of the Species is 4:30 p.m. Saturday, with the route beginning at Jefferson and Legion and winding west to Fifth and Water. Find a route map at procession.org/Map.php.

20th Annual Olympic Club Brewfest: 1-11 p.m. Free admission, $13 per 10-sample taster punch card. All ages welcome in the pub. 21 and over only in the brewery and theater.
