A mom and her two children were rescued from the second floor of a burning home late Wednesday, according to Lacey Fire District 3 Battalion Chief Tim Hulse.

“There were bedrooms on floor two, and the bedroom door was hot so they didn’t go out,” he said. “...There was fire between them and the exit.”

The fire was reported in the 4300 block of Highline Drive SE about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Thurston County dispatcher. Deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office were the first to arrive and played a key role in the rescue.

“One of the children jumped out of the window and was caught by one of our deputies,” said Thurston County Sheriff’s Sgt. Carla Carter.

Lacey Fire’s medic unit transported the family to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Hulse said. One of the children suffered a knee injury, he said.

Crews from Olympia Fire and East Olympia Fire also responded to the call.

“From the time the first engine got on scene, made the rescues and the fire was knocked down, was less than 8 minutes,” Hulse said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the amount of damage that was done has not been determined, he said.
