Craigslist sex ad leads to monitoring at Evergreen sauna and locker room
The Evergreen State College has been monitoring a locker room and sauna all month in response to a Craigslist ad that asked men to meet for sex.
The ad caught the attention of college officials April 4, about six days after it was posted in the personals section of the popular classified advertisement website.
According to the ad, a 52-year-old “nice looking” male was looking for other men to meet for “casual fun” in the men’s sauna in the college’s Costantino Recreation Center. The ad’s author also noted that he had a previous sexual encounter at the sauna.
“I am looking to meet at the sauna and see where it goes from there. Any age welcome, just be ready to play,” said the ad, which concluded with “No Craigslist flakes please.”
The college posted a bulletin at the facility about the Craigslist ad along with a reminder that “sexual activity is not tolerated in public spaces.”
Evergreen spokeswoman Meryl Lipman said the rec center’s staff has been monitoring the locker room and sauna once an hour since April 4. No one has been caught, she said.
“To our knowledge, nothing has happened,” Lipman told The Olympian, adding that she hasn’t heard of any incidents of public sex in her year and a half at the college. “To my knowledge, we have never apprehended anyone having sex in a public place on the Evergreen campus.”
The ad has since been removed from Craigslist. However, a copy of the ad was posted anonymously Thursday on the locker room door and was taken down by staff, Lipman said.
Lipman said Evergreen police are aware of the ad. Any incidents can be reported by calling 360-867-6140.
