Stephanie Coontz book signing: Stephanie Coontz, emeritus faculty member at The Evergreen State College, recently released her seventh book, “The Way We Still Never Were: Another Quarter Century of Family Change and Diversity,” and will discuss myths of the American family during a reading and signing event 5-6 p.m.The free event is in the college’s bookstore, in the College Activities Building on Evergreen’s Olympia Campus, 2700 Evergreen Parkway NW. Refreshments and open seating will be provided. Parking is $2.

Nature-scaping: Learn sustainable landscaping practices that can result in reduced maintenance chores, including watering and mowing, while also attracting birds and butterflies at WSU’s Native Plant Salvage Project “Naturescaping” workshop from 6-9:15 p.m. at the Tumwater Fire Hall, 311 Israel Road SW, Tumwater. Sponsored by the city of Tumwater/Stream Team. The class is free, but you must register to participate. Adopt-A-Pet plant sale: Adopt-A-Pet is having its plant sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the parking lot of Our Community Credit Union, 2948 Olympia Highway N., Shelton.
