1 dead in crash near McCleary late Sunday
A 20-year-old Shelton woman was killed and others injured in a two-car crash on state Route 8, just west of McCleary, about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A 19-year-old Shelton man stopped to make a left turn from eastbound state Route 8, but his Kia Soul crossed in front of an oncoming vehicle and was hit. He was not injured, but his car was hit on the passenger side by a Honda traveling westbound, killing the Kia’s 20-year-old female passenger.
Two other passengers in the Kia — a 40-year-old woman and a 4- to 6-year-old girl — were injured and transported to Capital Medical Center in Olympia. Another passenger, a 25-year-old man, was not injured.
The Honda, driven by an 18-year-old South Bend woman, was totaled, but she was not injured. Her passengers, 16- and 18-year-old females from South Bend, were injured and transported to Capital Medical Center.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. State Route 108 and the westbound lane of state Route 8 were blocked for four hours.
