Civil War letters: Author Nick K. Adams will read from David Brainard Griffin’s Civil War letters at the Lacey Timberland Library, 500 College St. SE, 4-5:30 p.m. Adams, Griffin’s great-great-grandson, has compiled the letters into a new book, “My Dear Wife and Children: Civil War Letters from a 2nd Minnesota Volunteer.” For more information, call 360-491-3860 or go to TRL.org.

Prairie Appreciation Day: A celebration of spring on the prairie is planned 10 a.m.-3 p.m.at Glacial Heritage Preserve and Mima Mounds with several trail walks and a hayride. Bring a lunch. Hawaiian dinner fundraiser: A meal and entertainment benefits Luau for Lupus and Rebuilding Together Thurston County. A Hawaiian dinner begins at 7 p.m., at the Olympia Eagles Club, 805 Fourth Ave. Enjoy live music by Whoa Dizzy and a silent auction. Cost is $10 at the door. Information: 360-357-3722 after 4 p.m.

The Olympia Symphony Orchestra: Making Music for 64 Years: Beginning at 7 p.m., at the State Capital Museum, 211 21st Ave. SE, the Olympia Symphony Orchestra’s conductor and music director, Huw Edwards, will speak about the history of the orchestra, music appreciation, and the special 10th anniversary concert at the Capitol on July 31. Suggested donation $2.

Thursday

Little Red Schoolhouse Barbeque: The fundraiser is 4-7.pm. at the Olympia Lacey Church of God, 5005 Lacey Blvd. The money provides students with school supplies, backpacks and clothing. Eat in or take out, $10. Enjoy live music, desserts for sale and raffle items. Tickets are at redschool.org, the Olympia Lacey Church of God and at the door.
