The Olympia Symphony Orchestra: Making Music for 64 Years. Beginning at 7 p.m., at the State Capital Museum, 211 21st Ave. SE, the Olympia Symphony Orchestra’s conductor and music director Huw Edwards will speak about the history of the orchestra, music appreciation and the special 10th anniversary concert at the Capitol on July 31. Suggested donation $2.

22nd Legislative District candidate forum: All three position 1 candidates will be participating, Laurie Dolan, Rhenda Strub and Franklin Edwards. The event is 6-8 p.m. at Thurston County Courthouse, Building 1, 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Olympia.

Relay for Life McTakeover: The Relay For Life of Thurston County is taking over the McDonald’s at 520 Sleater-Kinney Road SE, 5:30 7:30 p.m. Get information, meet volunteers and raise money to end cancer.

May 19

Little Red Schoolhouse Barbeque: The fundraiser is 4-7 p.m. at the Olympia Lacey Church of God, 5005 Lacey Blvd., Lacey. The money is used to provide students with school supplies, backpacks and clothing. Eat in or take out, $10. There will be live music, desserts for sale and raffle items. Tickets are can be purchased at redschool.org, the Olympia Lacey Church of God or at the door. A $14 donation will purchase a backpack, school supplies, socks and underwear for one child. Donations may be sent to P.O. Box 6302, Olympia, WA 98507.

History Happy Hour: Do you know what a Wobblie is? Are you familiar with the lyrics to Pete Seeger songs? Do you like drinking beer? Join the Washington State Archives gang for a spirited round of pub trivia at Three Magnets in the Barrel Room. This round’s theme is Washington labor history. Three Magnets in the Barrel Room is at 600 Franklin St. SE, Suite 105 in downtown Olympia.

“An American Ascent”: A feature documentary about the first African-American expedition to tackle North America’s highest peak, Denali. begins at 7 p.m., at The Evergreen State College library. The event is free.

Disney Dazzle: A concert by the Harstine Island Community Choir is planned May 20, 7-8:30 p.m., Belfair, United Methodist Church, 25140 NE State Route 3; May 21, 3-4:30 p.m. at the Mason Transit Authority Atrium across the street from Safeway in Shelton and May 22, 3-4:30 p.m. at Harstine Island Community Hall, 3371 E. Harstine Island Road N..

Plant Sale: The benefit for the WSU Master Gardener and Thurston County Master Recycler Composter programs is 9 a.m.-4 p.m.at Dirt Works Garden in Yauger Park, Olympia. Information: mgftc.org

Circulation Day: Unity Church of Olympia will hold its 13th annual Circulation Day8 a.m. to noon. The church is at 1335 Fern St., SW, Olympia. This is a community service project that resembles a community garage sale, but with one major difference — there are no prices.
