Possible sales tax increase for road improvements on Lacey agenda
Lacey City Council will take its show on the road Thursday (May 19) and hold its work session at the Virgil S. Clarkson senior center, 6757 Pacific Ave. SE. The meeting is set for 7-8:30 p.m.
The council will discuss the city’s Transportation Benefit District, which the council already formed. Still to be determined is the proposed funding mechanism for the district. The council is leaning towards raising the local sales tax to 8.9 percent from 8.7 percent.
Money raised from the sales tax increase would be used for road improvements.
The proposed sales tax increase likely will go before voters in 2017.
The city also announced this week that the council meeting set for May 26 has been canceled due to lack of a quorum. The next council meeting is at 7 p.m. June at Lacey City Hall, 420 College St.
